What is a WAF?
A WAF (Web Application Firewall) inspects HTTP and HTTPS traffic to your web applications at the application layer. A traditional network firewall works on ports and IP addresses; a WAF looks at the content of each request: form fields, cookies, headers and API calls.
This stops attacks such as SQL injection, cross-site scripting (XSS), file inclusion, session hijacking and malicious bots before they reach your application.
Why use a WAF?
Web applications are where most data breaches begin. Even when a flaw exists in the code, a WAF blocks the attack with virtual patching until the code is fixed.
- Protection against the OWASP Top 10
- Blocking bots, scrapers and credential stuffing
- Resilience against application-layer (L7) DDoS
- Support for GDPR, PCI DSS and ISO 27001 compliance
- Reporting of attack attempts and forwarding to your SIEM
What our WAF service covers
With a vendor-neutral approach we choose the cloud, hardware or virtual WAF that fits you best and manage it end to end.
- Application inventory and risk analysis
- WAF architecture design (reverse proxy, cloud, hybrid)
- Learning-mode rollout and rule tuning that cuts false positives
- SSL/TLS certificate management and load balancer integration
- 24/7 monitoring, incident response and monthly reporting
WAF and load balancer together
When we design the WAF together with the load balancer, traffic is filtered first and then distributed to healthy servers. This raises security and availability at the same time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will a WAF slow down my website?
A correctly sized WAF adds only milliseconds of latency. With caching and SSL acceleration, overall site performance often improves.
Should I choose a cloud WAF or an on-premises WAF?
If your applications run in the cloud or across several locations, a cloud WAF is fast to deploy. Where data must stay on site, we recommend an on-premises or hybrid design.
How long does deployment take?
Baseline protection for a single web application is usually live within a few days. Rule tuning and the learning period take 2-4 weeks depending on complexity.
